Hoxton Area Information
Where creatives lead, commerce is sure to follow. This is an axiom that has always applied to modern London and it is particularly true of Hoxton. Once a neglected light industrial zone in the N1 postcode, this trendy area near Old Street Tube station was invaded by hipsters over a decade ago. They converted the large warehouse spaces into dance clubs, funky bars and art galleries and it was only a matter of time that their priorities would turn to creating modern rental accommodation. The metamorphosis of the Old Street roundabout from traffic eyesore to "Silicon City" in the past couple of years has been the catalyst for an unforeseen, yet welcome developmental surge.
A welter of digital businesses and hi-tech start-ups have seen a rise in demand for high quality accommodation for both corporate professionals and geeks-turned-entrepreneurs. They want to enjoy a certain cafe culture while being able to cycle to work and Hoxton with its variety of loft styled spaces and contemporary builds fit the bill perfectly.
Developers have risen to the challenge by uncovering a hidden canal basin along the City Road which will be the site of a cluster of high rise buildings containing apartments, private cinemas and health clubs - all popular with professional tenants.
Hoxton remains a hotbed of hip restaurants and independent shops which are all within walking distance from Old Street Tube, St Pancras Eurostar terminal and the Shoreditch overground link. You can even walk to the Square Mile in 20 mins if in the mood!
