Blackheath and Kidbrooke Area Information
The advent of the Docklands Light Railway not only provided a handy route to Canary Wharf, but also relieved the pressure on the overground route into London Bridge. This means that those wishing to rent accommodation in London are now eager to explore the neighbourhoods that make up the borders of the Greenwich peninsula. It is here that they will find Blackheath and Kidbrooke.
Blackheath, with its prominent church spire, period homes and independent retailers. Examples of Georgian and Victorian architecture together with plenty of green spaces and a genuine village-like atmosphere make it perfect for a quick commute into the city and a stress-free weekend enjoying leisure pursuits.
Until recently, venturing further afield wasn't an option as the area around the south-circular road was blighted by urban decay. Now, due to a radical gentrification push, Kidbrooke has been added to the desirable fringes of the Docklands success story. Kidbrooke Village is a new property development by Berkeley Homes, built on top of the former Ferrier housing estate site. It has its own retail strip, restaurants and landscaped parkland and has totally redefined the area from which it takes its name. Individuals living in Blackheath who wish to get more space for their rental pound now have a viable alternative that will keep them in touch with their South East London roots.
Quick and easy links to the Square Mile and Docklands are what makes these two neighbourhoods such desirable locations for rented apartments. The journey into central London only takes 20 minutes and a fast interchange at the DLR stop at Lewisham provides access to Docklands. The perfect combination of connectivity and community is what makes these neighbourhoods such an attractive proposition for City workers, media professionals and young families.
