Even in a city with as much tradition as London, Blackfriars stands out as a unique area of historical importance and will appeal to those also looking for a base near the financial hub of the Square Mile. Named after an order of 12th Century clerics, it’s a compact, centrally located neighbourhood where Wren churches and futuristic office buildings happily coexist. Thanks to an imaginative and skilful approach to regeneration, Blackfriars is also providing desirable riverside locations for high-quality accommodation.

New developments are springing up on both sides of the River Thames around Blackfriars Bridge which can claim to be an architectural marvel in its own right. Most prominent among them is undoubtedly One Blackfriars, a grandiose crystal shaped building known as “The Vase”. Positioned on the bridge’s southern approaches, it is complemented by the nearby imposing shape of Tate Modern Museum and the eco-friendly designs of the Neo Bankside apartments.

On the northern shore of the Thames, Blackfriars offers plenty of choice when it comes to eating out, seeing a show or catching up on cultural events as it is just a short walk from Smithfield’s Market and The Barbican Centre. Blackfriars Station is where the District Line Tube intersects with the Thameslink service and Farringdon Station is one of the main stops on the revolutionary new Elizabeth (Crossrail) Line.
