Barnes Area Information
Barnes SW15 is an area of London that hasn't allowed its pristine views of the Thames to be over commercialised and is therefore an attractive option for those wishing to rent near the river and still be in touch with the West End. Well maintained streets containing immaculate Victorian houses cluster round Barnes Pond, an enclave that contains a good selection of restaurants, shops and pubs. Focal points like Gail's bakery and The Bulls Head pub play an important part in promoting a tranquil village-like atmosphere that is much sought after by young families, corporate professionals and those in the creative industries.
Two overground railway stations connect Barnes to the centre of London, namely Barnes and Barnes Bridge, from which commuters can get to Waterloo station in under half an hour. The latter takes its name from the wonderful example of Victorian engineering that crosses the Thames. The railway bridge is a low-profile marvel of elegant brickwork and wrought iron that really lends character to the waterfront. Leading from here, a strip of Georgian architecture along the Thames path forms The Terrace - the area's most select enclave.
