When the old South Acton Estate gave way to a smart new residential quarter, developers weren't just shooting in the dark. A new transport scheme is set to galvanise London, changing the way commuters and visitors travel through the capital. Named Crossrail, this new rail route will link west and east London via high-speed trains that are set to pass under the very heart of the capital. Acton's position between Heathrow Airport and Paddington makes it a vital part of this initiative and is bound to give the area a massive boost and make developments such as Acton Gardens not only viable, but desirable places to rent.

Chiswick and Ealing are immediate neighbours and Acton shares their broad leafy lanes and family-friendly green acreage which forms the backdrop to some lovely examples of Victorian and Edwardian architecture. Twyford Avenue is a fine example of the latter, with roomy semi-detached houses being of particular interest to wealthy young families. Property around Churchfield road is of an earlier vintage, but corporate professionals with a discerning eye will appreciate their pristine condition and proximity to good transport links. Mount Park, Walpole Park and the areas around Ealing Common are further afield but enjoy solid reputations as excellent places to rent accommodation.

Connectivity is one of Acton's main plus points. The area contains over half a dozen Tube and train stations which link the area to a large portion of the city. North, East and West Acton are all served by the Central Line and Acton Town is on the Piccadilly and District Lines. Acton Central and South Acton stations are both part of the Silverlink overland route and Acton Main Line has trains that head to Paddington station in only 7 minutes. It is this station that will also become part of the aforementioned Crossrail route.

Amenities in Acton are improving rapidly as demand for sophisticated eateries and shops increases. Stimulated by the cafe culture of Chiswick and the imaginative retail spaces in Ealing, the high street is set to experience something of a renaissance in the coming months.
